1900 Southport Prawner

Cherbourg, 50, France

£23,498

This wonderful "Southport Nobby" doesn't just look amazing, she is also beautiful to sail, easily handled by two people, and offers comfortable period accommodation (6' 3'' in wheelhouse and saloon).

"PILKINGTON" was built on the beach in 1900 at Marshside, Southport and named in honour of Sir George Pilkington who was the MP for Southport. Her builder Peter Wright fitted her with an iron keelson and ballast ingots moulded to fit their locations.

She fished extensively along the West coast of England - Hoylake, Morecambe bay, Fleetwood and North Wales as far as Barmouth. Pilkington often competed in the yearly Liverpool Regatta, her 1st recorded entry being in 1920. More recently, she has been a regular entrant in the Liverpool 'Nobby races' - coming 2nd in 2008. She is a good sea boat, having in recent years sailed along the SW Jurassic coast and cross channel to France.

Pilkington has evolved over the years - from her 1st petrol engine in the 1920's, the addition of a wheelhouse (popular from the 50's onward) to her current rig as a yawl, which makes life a lot easier when shorthanded. She sails well on head sails and mizzen, (the staysail self tacking). However, she could easily be converted back to cutter rig if required. The addition of a tabernacle and her shallow draft enables Pilkinton to navigate the inland waterways of Europe. Accommodation provides a step back in time with Victorian / Edwardian features. New standing rigging in 2021 and a new engine in 2017 with matched prop.

This is a unique opportunity to invest in maritime history at an incredibly affordable price.
